The Turning Point: Why We Took Butchery Into Our Own Hands

In 2020, we got the call no farmer wants that our butchers were changing their business model and could no longer cut our meat.

With six months notice we scrambled to find another option calling every local butcher we could but no one had space for a farm like ours.

Eventually, with no path forward, we made the heartbreaking decision to shut things down. We announced we were closing Central Park Farms, a thriving business we had poured everything into, simply because we couldn’t get our meat cut.

As we were preparing to sell equipment and walk away when, in a moment of grace, our butchers offered us a short-term extension. They didn’t want to be the reason we had to close our doors.

Fast forward to today, and my husband Jay leads our team in our very own on-farm butcher shop — cutting meat raised with care and bringing it straight to your table. We’ve built more stability for our farm, more trust for our customers, and more resilience in our local food system.

What Butchering In-House Means for Our Customers

  • Better Consistency.

Since we control every step of the butchering process, you get uniform cuts every time. No surprises when it comes to size, shape, or quality.

  • Reduced Waste.

Cutting in-house means we make smarter use of the whole animal, which reduces waste, respects our animals, and allows us to pass more value on to you.

  • Increased Transparency.

Your meat doesn’t pass through dozens of hands because it’s raised, butchered, and sold by the same team. If you have a question about the products, we’re happy to help.

Built for Local Food Lovers.

The Butcher Shop is our way of closing the loop — raising animals with care, cutting meat with skill, and serving it directly to you through our Langley farm store or direct to your door with our weekly home delivery.

It’s about creating a better experience for our customers and a better future for local food, because when farmers take back control of their food chain, everyone wins.

Supporting Other Farmers.

While our butcher shop was designed primarily to meet the needs of our customers, it’s also been a step forward for local food.

We do offer some custom cutting for a handful of farmers and small producers especially those who needed an option that understands the needs of small-scale agriculture.

It’s not the core of what we do, but we’re proud to play a small part in supporting a stronger, more connected local food system.
