Supporting Canadian Food: Local BC Farmers We Love, Part 1
There's something special about knowing exactly where your food comes from. As a farm that's been connecting directly with our community for the past decade, we believe that the relationship between producer and consumer is sacred. It's built on trust, transparency, and a shared love for quality food that nourishes both body and community.
At Central Park Farms, we're passionate about supporting local agriculture, and we know many of you are too. When we choose Canadian-grown and produced foods, we're not just getting fresher products – we're investing in our neighbours, strengthening our food security, and reducing our environmental impact.
Why Supporting Local Matters Now More Than Ever
While economic policies and international trade relationships shift and change, one thing remains constant: the incredible quality and dedication of Canadian food producers. Our local food ecosystem is resilient, innovative, and worthy of celebration.
Shopping locally means:
Your dollars stay in our community, creating a multiplier effect that supports local jobs
You're reducing food miles and the associated carbon footprint
You're investing in Canada's food security and sovereignty
You're enjoying food at its freshest and most nutritious
Local Farmers We Love
We're fortunate to be part of an amazing community of Canadian farmers and food producers who, like us, are committed to quality, sustainability, and transparency. Here are just a few of our favourite local food producers that deserve your support:
Creekside Cheese & Creamery
Nestled in the mountains at the eastern end of British Columbia's Fraser Valley, Creekside Cheese + Creamery is a family-owned, farm-based creamery in Agassiz. They produce artisan, hand-made cheeses using time-honoured methods and gentle handling techniques to express the true and natural flavours of the milk and terroir.
Their products include a variety of cheeses, such as their flagship Golden Meadow, a semi-soft cheese with a warm, rich, buttery flavour, and their award-winning Cracked Black Peppercorn Raclette, which took 1st place in the 2025 Royal Cheese Competition.
Visitors can explore the farm, meet the animals, and purchase products directly from their on-site store. They also have a milk vending machine that we absolutely love!
If they’re a little too far for you, check out their website for more information on their retail partners throughout BC and the farmers markets they attend.
Kingfisher Farm Market
Located in South Surrey near White Rock, Kingfisher Farm Market is a farm dedicated to providing sustainably grown vegetables and vibrant flowers to the local community.
From June to October, their historic 1928 barn transforms into a bustling market every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering fresh produce alongside local meats, cheeses, breads, eggs, and honey. Visitors are encouraged to explore the farm, meet resident goats, and experience firsthand where their food comes from.
For those seeking convenience, Kingfisher offers 'Farmer's Boxes'—seasonal assortments of garden abundance available for pickup at the farm or delivery to nearby neighbourhoods. Their roadside stand operates Wednesday to Sunday, featuring a selection of vegetables and fresh flower bouquets. Committed to sustainable farming practices, Kingfisher Farm enriches the soil and land without harmful chemicals, ensuring both the health of the environment and the community they serve.
Cropthorne Farm
Situated on the fertile soils of Westham Island in Delta, Cropthorne Farm is a certified organic farm committed to producing a diverse array of high-quality vegetables. They emphasize ecological sustainability and year-round cultivation to provide nutrient-dense food for the local community.
Their produce is available through various channels, including Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, an on-farm stand, and participation in Vancouver farmers' markets such as Riley Park, Kitsilano, and West End. Additionally, they supply local restaurants with their fresh offerings.
Kensington Prairie Farm
Nestled in Langley, Kensington Prairie Farm is a family-run operation specializing in Huacaya alpacas and Hereford cattle. In addition to raising livestock, the farm offers guided tours, interactive alpaca walks, and seasonal events like their Spring Shearing Market.
Their on-site boutique features a curated selection of alpaca fiber products, including cozy clothing, accessories, and home goods, alongside farm-fresh eggs and meat boxes. With a strong focus on sustainability and ethical farming practices, Kensington Prairie Farm provides an immersive experience for visitors looking to connect with local agriculture.
Whether you're stopping by for a farm tour or shopping for locally made products, Kensington Prairie Farm is a must-visit destination for farm lovers and fiber enthusiasts alike.
How to Support Canadian Producers
Looking to prioritize Canadian-grown and produced foods? Here are some practical ways to show your support:
Visit farmers' markets – British Columbia is blessed with amazing farmers' markets where you can meet producers face-to-face.
Join a CSA or subscription service – Many farms (including ours!) offer subscription boxes that deliver farm-fresh products right to your door.
Look for the "Product of Canada" label – When shopping at grocery stores, check labels and prioritize Canadian options.
Eat seasonally – When you eat what's in season locally, you're naturally supporting Canadian agriculture.
Share your favorites – Word of mouth is powerful! Tell friends and family about the Canadian producers you love.
